Gun Ban and New Legislation

Government of Canada’s new prohibition on certain firearms

What you need to know about the Government of Canada’s new prohibition on certain firearms and devices?
Check here for more information on the RCMP Website

Royal Canadian Mounted Police - Important Notice:

As a result of the May 1, 2020 Order in Council (OIC) amending the Regulations Prescribing Certain Firearms and other Weapons, Components, and Parts of Weapons, Accessories, Cartridge Magazines, Ammunition and Projectiles as Prohibited or Restricted ("Regulation") under the Criminal Code, a letter was recently sent out to individuals/businesses to inform them that their previously registered restricted firearms are now prohibited and their registration certificates became nullified. This nullification is the result of the legislative change to the Criminal Code Regulations and not the result of any decision by the Registrar to revoke the registration certificates under the Firearms Act. Accordingly, the letter is not a Firearm Registration Certificate Revocation Notice. The Amnesty Order protects owners who held a valid registration certificate for the newly prohibited firearms on April 30th, 2020.

What are your options now?

Wait for further instructions to participate in the buy-back program.
Have your firearm deactivated by an approved firearms business and advise the Registrar of Firearms once completed.
Legally export your firearm which case you can engage businesses with proper firearm licence privilege. Once exported you are requested to advise the Registrar of Firearms.

Cape Nova says:

Law-abiding firearms owners are among the most vetted citizens in Canada and should not be in the crosshairs of the Government.
Take the illegal guns away from criminals but not legally owned guns from the law-abiding citizens!
Wasting hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to buy guns from law-abiding Canadian sport-shooters and hunters is not a way to reduce crime.
These new firearms regulations have not gone through a democratic process in Canada. They have been ordered!
These steps of civil disarmament have not been debated in Canadian Parliament like it used to be before the COVID−19 pandemic.

We are concerned about this sign of deterioration of our democracy in Canada!

Canadian Taxpayers Federation:

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation filed court documents to intervene in the Cassandra Parker case to oppose a policy that will cost taxpayers a lot of money, but won’t make anyone safer. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is applying to intervene in a second court challenge against the gun ban and buyback led by the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights.

Will this new gun legislation really increase public safety?

Cape Nova says:

Let the police fight gun violence and go after criminals. But really do it!
Give the police the necessary resources to enforce the existing gun laws.
Don’t divide Canadians by scapegoating and demonizing law-abiding Canadian Citizens!
